As you may recall from your time at Imperial, travelling overseas or across the country to study in London, can be an exciting yet daunting prospect and many of our potential students and their parents or guardians will have questions about what to expect. With an ever more competitive jobs market, students also want to know where their degree can take them and how their time at Imperial can prepare them for their future career.

To answer those questions, and help students make the right decision for them, our Student Recruitment team are looking for alumni ambassadors to connect with prospective students and offer holders and those considering Imperial. Nobody understands this experience better than you.

Volunteer Role Description: Virtual student recruitment ambassador

We are looking for alumni who have graduated in the last ten years to share their own experience of studying at Imperial and to answer questions from offer holders, applicants and prospective students alongside current student ambassadors. Prospective students will be keen to hear about your experience of moving to London, what it was like to study at Imperial and how your degree has helped you in your career.

What to expect

We will ask you to create a short profile for the online platform, including details such as your first name, education details, professional details, a short bio and a photo. Prospective students, offer holders and anyone interested in studying at Imperial will have access to see your profile and message you directly via the platform.

Training on how to use the platform and some of the frequently asked questions will be provided. The training will take around 45 minutes to complete.

This programme is an opportunity to share your own experience. You will not be required to answer any technical questions or details about the admissions process. We will always be on hand if you are unsure on how to answer a particular question.

This role would suit somebody who…

  • Has graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Medicine or Natural Sciences within the past ten years.
  • Is enthusiastic about their time at Imperial and has utilised their degree and/or experience at the College to further their career.
  • Is comfortable sharing their personal experience of studying at Imperial and happy to answer questions about moving to the UK and living in London, and their career since graduating.
  • Has regular access to the internet and Imperial's website.

What are the benefits?

  • (Re)connect with the College and learn about what’s going on at Imperial.
  • An opportunity to share your experience and inspire the next generation of Imperial students.
  • A chance to support the College and help us to attract the best and brightest students.

Time commitment

It will take approximately one hour to complete the training and create your profile.

We ask that you are available to answer questions throughout the academic year. You will be able to set up notifications so you can respond to questions in a timely manner, ideally within 48 hours.

We anticipate it will take no more than 15 minutes to respond to an individual question, although some questions may lead to a conversation over several responses. There may be busy periods when you could receive a few messages a week and quieter periods when you may not receive any messages.

You will be able to edit and update your availability at any time.

How to apply

If you are interested in sharing your experience with prospective students and offer holders over the next few months, please register your interest by completing this short online form. We will be in touch to confirm your participation and provide further guidance if you are selected for the role.

This is an ongoing opportunity, but we encourage you to register your interest as soon as possible as registration will close once we have enough volunteers.
