Imperial is committed to providing learning and development for all staff irrespective of their number of working hours or type of contract and views this as a tripartite responsibility with individuals, their managers and POD all having a part to play in identifying development needs and supplying optimal responses.

On average, development activities are likely to require five days a year, but this can vary enormously depending on experience, rate of change of job requirements, ambition, etc.

Unless otherwise indicated, most workshops are held on the South Kensington campus. If sufficient people can attend, we will hold workshops on other sites. Please contact us to arrange this.

Tuition fee remission scheme for staff

Staff who register for a part-time postgraduate degree at Imperial may be eligible for a reduction in their tuition fee through the tuition fee remission scheme.
This includes part-time MBA programmes at Imperial Business School.

Travel associated with training

This should be claimed as a regular expense from your department after reference to the latest edition of the College’s Expenses Policy.

Booking a place on Imperialprogrammes

Follow the links at the bottom of the course web page you are interested in. Imperial Employees should use ‘Fast Track booking via My Training’; all others can use ‘Request Booking via Training Centre’, which will take you to the correct form, which should be completed and returned electronically.

The booking form asks for your manager’s authorisation to confirm that release from work and (if relevant) payment have been agreed upon. If this isn’t relevant, this form section can be left blank.
The People and Organisation Development will typically confirm that you have been booked onto a course by automated email and then send further details 1-2 weeks before the course date. These emails come from the sender: Imperial Training [imperialtraining@imperial.ac.uk]

Please note
: When booking a course that lasts multiple days, you should ensure you are free for the entire course. Admission will not be granted to those who have missed part of the course, and a cancellation fee will be incurred.

Cancellations

Cancellations should be notified to the appropriate centre as soon as possible so that the place can be offered to those on the waiting list.

Catering for training programmes

It is not general policy to provide meals on non-residential training programmes.
However, some programmes require teams to work collaboratively over a meal break to maximise available time. In such circumstances, lunch will be provided, and course delegates will be expected to remain to participate in the team activity.
