This prestigious programme is for experienced people managers who want to gain a formal qualification to support their leadership journey. Delivered by Imperial Business School and Corndel, a leading provider of work-based development, it combines academic excellence with exceptional vocational training. Learners will join a cohort of Imperial managers, and over twelve months, they will develop the strategic and commercial skills needed to succeed and progress as leaders. Key themes include:

Delivery will take the form of executive skills coaching with a professional development expert, online group seminars and masterclasses delivered by Imperial academics. Learners will gain a professional qualification at level 7 (Master’s level), CMI accreditation, and Executive Education Associate Alumni status with Imperial Business School.

Who should attend

This programme is geared at Imperial people managers in Professional, Technical and Operational roles at level 4 and above but is also open to leaders in other job families. Participants must have at least five years of people management experience and should have engaged with Imperial’s internal Management and Leadership Development provision.
Participants may have completed an accredited leadership development programme (internal or external) at levels 3 – 6, but this is not necessary. Please note: this course is not suitable for staff who have already obtained a leadership and management qualification at level 7.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

  • Have five years’ people management experience and work at level 4 and above in a people management role.
  • Have engaged with Imperial’s internal Management and Leadership Development provision.
  • Have approval from your line manager.
  • Be able to commit to the minimum study requirement (approximately 6 hours per week).
  • Have Maths and English at Level 2 (i.e., GCSE grade A* - C / 9 – 4 or equivalent). If you do not have this, you will have an opportunity to complete it as part of the programme.
  • Have enough time remaining on your contract of employment to complete the programme.
  • Meet Skills Funding Agency rules around the Right to Work in the UK and residency.
  • Work at least 30 hours a week.
Course Content and Delivery

The programme is fully aligned to the Level 7 Senior Leader apprenticeship standard, and participants will develop the knowledge and skills to:

  • Set direction, vision, and governance and provide a clear sense of purpose for their area of responsibility.
  • Provide clear and inclusive leadership.
  • Identify longer-term opportunities and risks using data from internal intelligence sources and external influences.
  • Develop sustainable, ethical, innovative and supportive cultures that get the best from people and enable the delivery of results.
  • Effectively manage resources that may include budgets, people, assets and facilities.
  • Stay up to date with innovation and champion its adoption.
  • Keep pace with - and respond - to change - by leading agile transformation.
  • Lead and promote sustainable business practices.
  • Respond to and manage crisis situations.

Participants will attend fortnightly 1-1 executive skills coaching with a professional development expert, online group workshops, group learning sessions and monthly masterclasses. In between planned sessions, there will be follow-up activities and assignments.

On successful completion

On successful completion, participants will gain:

  • Imperial and Corndel Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship.
  • CMI Chartered Fellow Status.
  • CMI Accredited Level 7 Management & Leadership Certificate.
  • Executive Education Associate Alumni status with Imperial Business School.
