The Library also offers EndNote workshops. EndNote is a more complex system for reference management and is commonly used by researchers as well as researchers and students in the Faculty of Medicine.

RefWorks is cloud-based reference management software which makes referencing easier by inserting citations and generating reference lists in your assignments. You can quickly and easily build a library of references from the sources you have read, organise them by project and share them with otherfor group assignments. This workshop will show you how to create a RefWorks account, save and organise references and use them to create citations and reference lists. 

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • import references into RefWorks from a variety of sources
  • organise references into folders and projects 
  • format citations and create references lists in your chosen style using the Word add-in

This workshop will show you how to create a Zotero account, save references from different sources, create folders to organise your references and use them to create citations and reference lists. You will learn how it can help save time and academic energy.   

By the end of this session you will be able to: 

  • understand the principles of reference management, and the specific benefits of Zotero
  • use Zotero to manage files and references
  • produce documents using Zotero for bibliographies and citations, including with specific Zotero functionalities relevant to your preferences or subject discipline

Referencing with BibTeX for LaTeX users

Managing your references in a LaTeX document is fairly straightforward and should not involve a lot of manual work. In this session you will learn how to cite and reference sources in your LaTeX document using BibTeX files, including using reference management software like RefWorks. Participants should have a working knowledge of LaTeX.

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • cite and reference sources in LaTeX documents using BibTeX
  • identify how to use Vancouver, Harvard and IEEE styles  
  • create BibTeX files from databases and other sources 
  • use reference management software to create and organise BibTeX files
