Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025, with paid-for support and security patching ending in October 2028. From 3 June 2024, devices will come shipped from HP with Windows 11. Running an out-of-date operating system makes your device more susceptible to data breaches and virus attacks, putting both yourself and the university's data at risk. Next steps

ICT is working with the university community to ensure that devices running Windows 10 are either upgraded or replaced with as little disruption as possible.

If you are using a device that is running Windows 10, you will receive a prompt to update to Windows 11. If you want to upgrade early, you can complete our upgrade form.

If your device cannot run Windows 11, we will contact you to discuss options. These include:

  • Replacing your old computer running Windows 10 with a brand new computer (this could be a desktop or a laptop depending on requirements).
  • If the computer offered by ICT does not meet your required specifications, we can contribute up to £700 to a new computer.

If you do not wish your device to be updated to Windows 11, you can complete our opt-out form. Requests will be reviewed on an individual basis.
