The Future of Music Technology Symposium was a one-day event scheduled for 2020, organised in partnership with the Royal College of Music (RCM) as part of the Humanities@70 series.
The event was to be held in the new Performance Studio and the Musical Instrument Library of the RCM; an opportunity for researchers, practitioners and developers in the field, from Imperial, the RCM and the RCA, to come together and share ideas and perspectives on current and future developments in music technology.
Music Technology has been taught at Imperial College on both the Horizons and evening programmes since 2004 and has always been a very popular choice with students. Students learn to compose music using state-of-the-art technology. The practical aspects of the course are embedded in a theoretical and analytical framework which encourages critical evaluation of how they listen to and compose music and the role played by music technology in both activities. Above all, the course encourages creativity, curiosity and self-expression, along with a willingness to take artistic risks.
