Dear all,
As we prepare for the end of the term and 2022, I want to say a heartfelt thank you for your work this year.
This month marks only my fifth at Imperial. Each week I am still amazed at what our community achieves.
It was no accident that this year we were ranked in the top 10 in the world in both the QS and Times Higher international university rankings. And of course, our excellent REF result proved what many of you will already know: Imperial has a greater proportion of world-leading research than any other UK university.
These results speak for themselves – and they are down to you. Your effort, your ingenuity, your innovation and your dedication. Thank you again.
I hope you got the chance to join me at this week’s In Conversation with the President. Peter Haynes set out our ambition around education and student experience, especially partnering with students on everything from curriculum development to space design. Faith Osier and Charles Bangham gave a great insight into how to achieve major impact by working collaboratively. The Institute of Infection draws together staff in every faculty to help prepare for pandemics, equip the world with vaccines and much more besides. You can sign up here to receive the Institute’s mailings.
Thanks also for all your questions, which were many and varied. We will provide more information on various corporate issues in this week’s Staff Briefing newsletter. On cost of living, I promised to share again our suggestions mailbox. Please do use this to send in your thoughts. An overview of the College’s support for staff and students is here.
And please do take a few minutes to complete the feedback form. As both myself and Jonathan Mestel said in the session, this is vital and will help us to shape future sessions.
The next event will be on Thursday 19 January, 10.00-11.00. Watch out for the usual invite.
In the meantime, I hope you are able to relax and enjoy spending time with family and friends in the coming weeks. I look forward to seeing you in the new year.
Best wishes,
Hugh
