Stanley Buckmaster, 1st Viscount Buckmaster, GCVO, became the Chairman of the Governing Body at Imperial College London in 1923.
He was educated at Oxford and was called to the Bar in 1884 to be appointed King’s Counsel in 1902. He became Liberal MP for Cambridge between 1906 and 1910, and Keighley between 1911 and 1915. He had a distinguished career in politics taking the position of Solicitor General, Lord Chancellor and Privy Councilor before joining Imperial College as Chairman in 1923-1934.
