Welcome to the Transport & Environment Laboratory

Transport impacts upon the environment in a number of ways and across a range of scales. At the local scale, transport affects the air we breathe and the sounds we hear. At the global scale, transport is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions that influence the our Earth's climate system. At the same time, transport is fundamental to our social and economic systems and passenger and freight activity is forecast to continue to grow globally.

At the Transport & Environment Laboratory, our aim is to advance our understanding of these impacts using a range of measurement and modelling tools across different transport modes so that we can reduce transport's impact on the environment in the face of growing activity and demand for transport services.
