The bio-nanofabrication clean room is a collaboration between the Royce institute and Department of Bioengineering.
The ISO6 certify clean room space allows researchers to develop new biomedical devices using state-of-the-art material science equipment.
It hosts a femtosecond laser micromachining system, funded by the Royce Institute and equipment for the fabrication of thin film bio-devices The Optec Femtosecond Laser WS Starter allows for high-precision micromachining of many materials.
The system has a Coherent Monaco laser with dual wavelengths (515nm and 1030nm). The x, y stage allows for a precision of 1µm repositioning while the laser spot can be focussed at 8µm. This allows for the engraving and cutting of thin film, silicon wafer, metal, polymer and oxide.
