Who Can Apply?
Both the MRes and (MRes+PhD) CDT programmes are open to graduates with at least an upper second class (i.e. 2:1 or above) undergraduate degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering. Other first degrees may be considered. There is no formal requirement for a Masters degree, but a Masters degree can be advantageous. We also accept a wide variety of international qualifications.

You should be looking for a challenging, interdisciplinary research training environment and have an active interest in the applications of new materials and devices.
The Plastic Electronics MRes and CDT programmes have limited places (no more than 20 in total per year), so there is significant competition for each place. To maximise your chances, please ensure that you tailor your application to this course and your preferred projects - make sure you read our hints and tips for a good application before applying! Please note that being called for interview does not guarantee a successful application; the interview is for the supervisor to find out more about your skills and experience and whether you are a good fit for their project - it's also an opportunity for you to interview them!
We welcome applications from international and EU students, but due to funding restrictions we cannot provided funded studentships for non-EU students; these students will need to provide their own funding. We are also very restricted in the number of funded studentships we can provide to EU students who have not been normally resident in the UK for at least three consecutive years. Find out more about funding eligibility.
The projects pages detail all the projects available for MRes and CDT applicants.
Applications for October 2018 entry are closed. Note that we strongly advise early applications! Projects are filled on a rolling basis, as we identify applicants who are a good fit to each project. We expect to allocate most projects before June.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to make informal enquiries by contacting Ms Lisa Cheung (PE-CDT Administrator) in the first instance.
