Aluminium Foam Sandwich Castings for Lightweight Wing Structures

My work concentrates on the mechanical modelling and testing of aluminium foam sandwich panels (aluminium foam core with aluminium face sheets) for potential use as an aircraft wing skin material, allowing the reduction or elimination of ribs and stringers, offering an overall lighter wing with equivalent mechanical properties to existing wing skins, whilst improving capability for wing fuel storage and flow by eliminating internal structures.
