Christina MavrommatiIn 2000, I was awarded with the Master’s of Science (MSc) in Soil Mechanics and Engineering Seismology from Imperial College after graduating from University College London (UCL) in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree with Honours (BEng Hons) in Civil Engineering.

I got a great start in my career working for Mott MacDonald within the Metros and Civil Division as a Graduate Engineer until 2003, when I moved to Greece. I returned to the UK (with my family) and to Mott MacDonald at the beginning of 2013 as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. Within two years I was promoted to Principal Engineer and I am now based in the head office in Croydon. During this time, I have worked as a designer and team leader on major projects such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel, UK Nuclear projects, the Network Rail Wessex Capacity Upgrade and the Doha Metro. I was the UK Geotechnical Design Team Lead for Msheireb Station part of the Qatar Integrated Railways Project (the Doha Metro) which is one of the largest metro stations in the world and a finalist for the 2017 Ground Engineering Award in the International Project of the Year category.

Between 2007 and 2012 I worked for Attiko Metro in Athens as the Supervising Design Engineer for one of the major contracts involving the design and construction of three new Metro Stations along Line 3 of the Athens Metro. Between 2003 and 2007 I worked with EDAFOS and TRITON in Athens, as a freelance Geotechnical Engineer and got involved in major infrastructure projects in Greece and Cyprus such as Egnatia Highway and the Solea Dam.

I have presented professional achievements and major project work at various occasions and my publications have been included in the proceedings of Conferences. I am also a STEM ambassador, offering voluntarily my time to promote and explain Engineering to school aged children engaging with them at Career Fairs and workshops in order to inspire them and demonstrate the value of Engineering in our everyday life and as a career choice.
