The Water Initiative of South Asia (WISA) is a two-phase project supported by a range of funding bodies to promote science innovation and partnership between Turkey, South Asian Countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) and the United Kingdom. Phase 1 took place in November 2017 and involved a WISA workshop held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Phase 2 started with professional training for early career researchers on Governance and Allocation and Integrated Water Management, held in July 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey.

A Researcher Links workshop will be held on 13th-14th December 2018 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Please see below for more details.

Workshop on the use of Scientific Research for Cooperative Management and Governance of Central and Southern Asia’s Transboundary River Basins

The Centre for Environmental Policy and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Imperial College London are happy to announce a workshop, co-funded and organised with the British Council and Nazarbayev University, investigating the use of scientific research for cooperative management and governance of Central and Southern Asia’s transboundary river basins.

This Researcher Links workshop forms part of the second phase of The Water Initiative of South Asia (WISA) which is supported by a range of funding bodies to promote science innovation and partnership between Turkey, South Asian Countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) and the United Kingdom.

The workshop will be held on 13th-14h December 2018 at Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan and will provide a platform for water scientists and water conflict experts to share knowledge and expertise regarding transboundary river basin management.  It will aim to identify the potential for scientific research to contribute to cooperative management and good governance of transboundary river basins and how future processes could be developed to encourage greater use of scientific research.  It will also identify the research questions that are of the highest priority for the management of transboundary river basins in central and southern Asia.

The organising committee invites applications from academics and policy and practice decision makers involved in transboundary river basins, water management and governance.  The applicants should be based in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, or Uzbekistan.  If interested in attending the workshop please email wisa.programme@imperial.ac.uk giving details of your relevant experience and current role. The deadline for the application is 22nd October 2018 with selected applicants expected to be notified by 24th October.

Flights (economy) and accommodation will be provided. Should you have any questions concerning the workshop please contact us at wisa.programme@imperial.ac.uk
