Since 1900, 2.3 million people have died in 2,233 earthquakes[1] and we can only expect those numbers to continue increasing as the exposure and vulnerability of communities grow year to year. Earthquakes are a major global concern affecting people’s lives, economy and wellbeing.
We are working to develop new knowledge, advanced tools and innovative technologies to enhance the resilience of structures against seismic actions. We are currently exploring the potential kinetic energy-based motion-control technologies and have applied formal dimensional analysis to study the seismic response of steel structures. These are the latest of a series of on-going efforts to characterise the relationship between strong ground-motion parameters and structural response.
