The Francis Crick Institute
The Francis Crick Institute (established 2010, formally opened 2016) is a biomedical research institute which breaks down barriers between disciplines allowing bold ideas to be pursued. Work at the Crick addresses fundamental questions about disease and human health and bridges the gap between research and application. The Crick supports over 1,500 scientists and fosters excellence with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The Crick’s prestigious global reputation is especially impressive given its young age; the Crick was placed fifth on the 2020 Nature Index for institution outputs in the life sciences by research institutes, ahead of both Institut Pasteur (est. 1887) and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (est. 1975).
Our partnership
The Crick is a unique partnership between six world leading biomedical research organisations: the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK, the Wellcome Trust, Imperial College London, King’s College London and UCL. Our partnership with the Crick provides our academic community with a wealth of opportunities for high calibre collaborative research.
Facilities at the Crick
The Crick has over 15 cutting-edge Science Technology Platforms (STPs) from areas such as Advanced Light Microscopy through to Structural Biology. Each STP provides researchers with access to state-of-the-art equipment, technical advice and instruction in the effective use of the different technologies. The Crick’s facilities combine essential research support services and specialist functions to allow world-class research to flourish.
In addition to the STPs, the Crick hosts two major centres of national and international importance: the Medical Research Council Biomedical NMR Centre provides NMR spectroscopy facilities to researchers across the UK, and the Worldwide Influenza Centre is one of six centres in the world responsible for analysing flu viruses circulating in the human population.
Our partnership with the Crick gives our academic community the unique opportunity to access to these facilities alongside the comprehensive training and technical support on offer.
A detailed overview of each STP, including information on equipment and training, plus members and publications, is available on the Crick’s website.
Our partnership
The Crick actively investigates over 20 research topics ranging from Biochemistry to Tumour Biology. To view the full list of topics, and search for potential collaborations, visit the Crick’s research webpages.
